Lathe Storage #2

Lathe Storage

I got a new lathe for Christmas. It is a very nice Jet 1642 variable speed lathe. So I was once again in need of some tool and general storage at the lathe. This is the final product.

The most important thing with this was of course tool storage. I used a similar design as I used for the storage on the previous lathe but this time instaed of angling the slots I was able to make them straight. This was due to the extra space available on this larger lathe. The pictures below show the storage from both the top and the front.

I utilized the space under the tool storage by builing tracks and installing two sliding doors as shown below.

The base of the storage unit has 3 drawers. The drawer boxes are made of 3/4" MDF with 1/4" hardboard as the bottoms. This will allow me to really load the drawers down as needed.

All in all I have to say I am very pleased with how this project turned out and it has proven to be quite user freindly as I have turned on the lathe.
